My primary line of research focuses on the examination of learner behavior as impacted by different styles of teaching in the physical education setting. Mosston and Ashworth’s Spectrum of Teaching Styles serves as the framework for investigating learner behavior as it relates to motor, cognitive, and social/affective development in learners. My interest in the Spectrum dates back to 1986 when I was formally introduced to the Spectrum by Dr. Mike Sherman at the University of Pittsburgh. Since 1986, I have been intimately involved in researching various theoretical implications of Spectrum teaching styles and using the Spectrum to guide my teaching in university classes.
